2015 INDEPENDENT PUBLISHER BOOK AWARDS RESULTS
RECOGNISING EXCELLENCE IN INDEPENDENT PUBLISHING
Mary Egan Publishing is delighted that two of the books they produced last year, the Super Power Baby Project and Madness Made Me, have won awards in the 2015 Independent Publisher Book Awards, considered to be one of the highest honours for books published by independent publishers.
Conducted annually, the Independent Publisher Book Awards honour the year’s best independently published titles from around the world, this year attracting nearly 6000 entries from 36 countries. The awards are intended to bring increased recognition to the thousands of exemplary independent and self-published titles published each year.
Outstanding Books of the Year
The Outstanding Books of the Year recognise the work of authors and publishers who exhibit the courage and creativity necessary to take chances, break new ground, and bring about change, not only to the world of publishing, but to our society. The winning books were judged to be the most heartfelt, unique, outspoken and experimental among the multitude of entries.
In this category Super Power Baby Project won the Independent Spirit Award for 2015.
About the book
Super Power Baby Project
Super Power Baby Project is a photographic art book that features striking portraits of 72 children with chromosomal and genetic conditions, taken by award-winning photographer, Rachel Callander. Rachel’s insights and images offer a fresh understanding and language regarding disability.
The book is part of an initiative to change the way in which children with these conditions are viewed, and to recognise and appreciate the special abilities they have as a result of their perceived disability.
Author and photographer Rachel Callander was ‘delighted’ to hear the news and said, ‘The Independent Spirit Award is the perfect award to recognise and celebrate these amazing children who have so much to teach us.’
Mrs Callander said that winning the prestigious award is the strongest possible endorsement of the book and the many people who helped to bring it to life.
Super Power Baby Project, is published through Mary Egan Publishing, designed by Anna Egan-Reid, and project managed by Sophia Egan-Reid. The book is an outstanding example of the quality of independent publishing.
